Falling in love with the South of Crete

Explore secluded hidden beaches and charming little villages

and rocky landscapes with gorges opening up to the Mediterranean Sea

Welcome to Plakias.

The village Plakias is located in the South of Crete, approximately 30 km from Rethymno. Before entering the village of Plakias you have to come through one of the 2 beautiful gorges.

At the end of the gorge you will be mesmerized by the endless blue sea that will enfold itself. Driving through different small villages like Asomatos, Mariou or Mirthios you will already see small tavernas & restaurants where the food is great and the raki cold.

Everything you need for your holiday is available in Plakias however if you want to explore the South further there are endless possibilities for everyones taste.

Villa Sávra is convenient located inside the village of Plakias, with a short walk down to the many fantastic restaurants that Plakias has to offer.

Hanging out in a local Taverna or a cantina is the best way to feel the spirit on the island, where a small dessert and a Raki after dinner is almost a certainty.

The Greek people in general are welcoming but the hospitality afforded by Cretans is something truly special.

The South of Crete is a great destination if you like exploring, hiking or even mountain-biking.

Dramatic mountains and deep valleys and as a bonus that incredible blue sea. There are lots of sheep, goats and wild flowers especially in spring.

Visit the many typical Greek churches that you will pass on your way and light a candle for someone special but please don’t forget to leave a small donation!

High up in the mountains you can often see the birds of prey. From our back terrace you often see them “hanging” in the sky above the olive fields.

Sea and beaches all in walking distance and with a little bit of effort you can still find those little hidden gems, of course as a guest of Villa Sávra we will tell you where to find them.
